The Executive Branch has made official the establishment of a high-level commission, of a temporary and multisectoral nature, to tackle the food security crisis and the family farming issue.

The formation of the commission was established through Supreme Resolution No. 010-2022-MIDAGRI published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The commission, which is attached to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, is expected to propose measures to ensure the continuity of agricultural production and the supply of food available for consumption across the country, in the context of the global food crisis.

The high-level group will be made up of Prime Minister Anibal Torres, who chairs the commission, and ministers of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, Production, Development and Social Inclusion, Foreign Trade and Tourism, Health, Transport and Communications, as well as Justice and Human Rights.

The commission will review the situation of agricultural production and food supply.

Likewise, it will identify the products needed to feed the population and will establish strategies to maintain or increase their production or importation.

Moreover, it will propose a mechanism for the purchase of food from agricultural sources in order to distribute it to community kitchens, soup kitchens, and health centers.

Additionally, it will propose measures to counteract possible practices of hoarding and speculation of food and products.
