Peru Gov't conducts comprehensive review of emergency response

15:01 | Lima, Mar. 29.

The Government of Peru is carrying out a comprehensive assessment of the measures adopted —from March 15 up to the present day— to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and will announce the new provisions to be applied during the second stage of the health emergency.

Consequently, President Martin Vizcarra will not hold a press conference —as usual— in order to address the nation and inform of the actions taken to confront the pandemic.

The Press Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic reported that a Council of Ministers session will be held on Monday morning, followed by a virtual press conference at about noon.

"Said conference will explore the new measures to be undertaken in the next stage of the emergency, which runs from March 31 to April 12," it stated.

It was reported that Ministers Victor Zamora (Health) and Rocio Barrios (Production) are in the Amazonian region of Loreto monitoring the implementation of the measures taken to deal with this virus.

Earlier on Sunday, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced that the number of patients infected with COVID-19 rose to 852, thus bringing the total number of deaths to 18.
