Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez has announced that the Peruvian Government agreed to extend until April 18 the validity of the current measures established in the regions at high, very high, and extreme risk due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In order not to affect the electoral process, we will not make amendments to the classification of provinces, and each one of them will maintain their current alert level for one more week," she noted.

The high-ranking official indicated that —from now on— the classification of the sanitary risk level of different provinces will be carried out every three weeks, which will allow greater predictability regarding the measures that have been adopted within the framework of the fight against the pandemic.

Likewise, the Cabinet chief stated that the decision to go from two to three weeks will make it possible to make adjustments to the rules that allow the operation of businesses or spaces where people gather so as to improve the indicators linked to the health risk level.

On the other hand, she indicated that on election day (April 11) people will be allowed to circulate without restrictions to exercise their right to vote.

Likewise, she reported that mandatory social immobility —also known as curfew— will start at 11:00 p.m. (local time) on that day.
