The Peruvian Government —led by President Pedro Castillo — will boost the development of the necessary infrastructure for the massive use of natural gas in the following regions: Cusco, Puno, Apurimac, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, Ayacucho, and Ucayali.

This measure aims to ensure that this natural resource reaches out to more Peruvian families and boosts the development of productive activities.

According to a Supreme Resolution approved by the Council of Ministers, the Multisectoral Commission —which depends on the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM)— will have to provide a final report featuring proposals for the development of natural gas infrastructure that allows the massive use in the aforementioned regions which do not have access to this resource.

The measure comes within the framework of Peru's 2010-2040 National Energy Policy.

It should be noted that the Multisectoral Commission was created by Supreme Resolution No. 108-2021 PCM. It is made up of the Prime Minister, as well as the Ministers of Energy-Mines, Economy-Finance, Foreign Trade-Tourism, Justice-Human Rights, and Foreign Affairs, as well as the chair of the State-run PetroPeru company.

With this new government policy of massive use and intensification of natural gas, President Castillo's administration seeks to put this resource at the service of Peruvians at a fair price nationwide.

It will benefit multi-family homes; social institutions such as soup kitchens, community kitchens, medical posts, hospitals, and shelters, as well as productive activities such as commerce and transportation.
