Peru: Government declares 2022 Year for Strengthening of National Sovereignty

The Executive Branch has approved declaring 2022 as the "Year for the Strengthening of National Sovereignty."

According to Supreme Decree No. 003-2022-PCM, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano, the phrase approved by means of the preceding article is registered in official documents.

The decree indicates that the declaration of the year 2022 is in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 8 of article 118 of the Political Constitution of Peru and Law No. 29158 (Organic Law of the Executive Branch).

Likewise, it explains that through Supreme Decree No. 164-2021-PCM the Government's General Policy for 2021-2026 period is approved, which contains 10 axes referring to:

1. Generation of well-being and social protection with food security.
2. Reactivation of the economy and productive activities featuring agricultural and rural development.
3. Promotion of science, technology and innovation.
4. Strengthening of the educational system and learning recovery.
5. Decentralization, institutional and civil service strengthening.
6. Strengthening of the democratic system, citizen security, as well as the fight against corruption, drug trafficking and terrorism.
7. Efficient management of risks and threats to people's rights and their environment.
8. Governance and digital transformation with equity.
9. Leading a national, autonomous, democratic, social and decentralized diplomacy.
10. Intercultural State for the promotion of cultural diversity.

"Given the above-mentioned considerations, it is necessary to declare the Year 2022 as the 'Year of the Strengthening of National Sovereignty'," it pointed out.
