Peru: General David Ojeda appointed as new Army Commander General

The Ministry of Defense (Mindef) has designated Division General David Guillermo Ojeda Parra as the new Commander General of the Peruvian Army, replacing General Walter Horacio Cordova Aleman.

The designation was made official by Supreme Resolution No. 168-2022-DE published on Tuesday in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

David Ojeda graduated as Second Lieutenant of Infantry on January 1, 1986. 

The new Commander General has vast experience and years of service in Peru. Besides, he holds a Master's degree in Administration from ESAN University and a PhD in Education Sciences from Enrique Guzman y Valle University (La Cantuta).

Before assuming the command, Ojeda was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Army by Supreme Resolution No. 159-2021-DE. 

He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Fabrica de Armas y Municiones del Ejercito S.A.C. (Army Arms and Ammunition Factory).

General Ojeda was awarded the Peruvian Cross for Military Merit, in the Grade of Grand Officer.

Moreover, he has received the Francisco Bolognesi Military Order in the Grade of Grand Cross and the Marshal Eloy Ureta Medal in the Grade of Commander from the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (CCFFAA).

On the other hand, the termination of Cordova's appointment —upon his request— and his retirement were accepted by Supreme Resolution No. 167-2022-DE published in the country's official gazette.
