Peru: GDP grew 18.21% in March 2021

Peruvian GDP increased 18.21% last March boosted by favorable results from the majority of economic sectors, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Saturday.


However, INEI pointed out that production in March 2021 has not surpassed the levels of March 2019, showing a -1.60% reduction.

National production grew 3.80% in the January-March period of this year, but decreased -9.48% in the April 2020-March 2021 period. 

The manufacturing; construction; mining and hydrocarbons; finance and insurance; and commerce sectors contributed to 75% of the total result.

Telecommunications; transportation and storage; electricity, gas, and water; services provided to companies; accommodation and restaurants sectors also showed positive figures.

Meanwhile, the farming sector's figures declined.

Last March, fisheries; construction; telecommunications; finance; and public administration and defense sectors' activities surpassed the levels of March 2019.

Expansion

Likewise, INEI informed that the fisheries sector registered a 33.63% increase, while the mining and hydrocarbons sector grew 15.37%.
