The Judiciary declared well-founded the 8-month travel ban against Purple Party’s former presidential candidate Julio Guzman, who is investigated over alleged money laundering charges.

The measure was requested by the Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group.

According to the judicial resolution, the request complies with all requirements for the travel ban.

Likewise, the document affirms that it is a reasonable time frame for the remaining investigations to be carried out.

At a hearing held on June 21, the request was put to a vote by Second Preparatory Investigation Court for Corruption Offenses Judge Juan Carlos Sanchez.

During the meeting, the Public Ministry representative explained the reasons for the request and indicated that Guzman had allegedly received US$400,000 from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

On his part, attorney Javier Aguirre —Guzman's defense— stated that former Odebrecht Superintendent in Peru Jorge Barata has not testified that Guzman had received money from the company.
