Peru: Formal private sector employment grew 4.1% in 2019

Formal private sector employment increased 4.1% in 2019 nationwide compared to the previous year, showing an average annual increase of 142,060 jobs, the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) reported on Friday.

This is according to the Labor Information Registry (T-Register) and the Monthly Payment Worksheet (Plame), which are part of the MTPE electronic spreadsheet.

In December 2019, formal private sector employment went up 6.1% over the same month the year before, thus registering the highest growth rate in the year after 33 months of consecutive expansion.

This resulted in a gain of 218,569 new formal jobs added since December 2018, thus totaling 3,815,692 formal posts at private companies nationwide.
 
In 2019, there was an increase in formal employment, mainly in the following sectors: services (4.8%; 86,646 jobs), farming and fisheries (8.9%; 24,951), construction (7.3%; 13,593), trade (2.2%; 13,065), and manufacturing (1.4%; 7,137).
