Formal employment in Peru, which is measured by the number of jobs reported by the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), grew 9.4% in April 2022 compared to the same month last year, marking 13 straight months of recovery, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported on Sunday.

According to the BCR, this growth coincides with a relaxation of health containment measures put in place to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

As for private formal jobs, they have continued growing at the same rate for over a year now and posted a growth of 11.9% last April.

The increase in jobs in the formal private sector occurred mainly in the services and agricultural sectors, with growth rates of 12.4% and 31.2%, respectively.

The BCR underscored that half of the increase of formal jobs in April this year was reported in the service sector (216,000).

The payroll grew 11.9% last April compared to the same month in 2021, mainly associated with the recovery in jobs.

Moreover, the private sector payroll rose by 13.8% in April, mainly due to increases in payroll recorded in the sectors of commerce, services, and agriculture.
