18:57 | Lima, Jan. 21.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra on Tuesday highlighted the legacy of former United Nations Secretary-General, Ambassador Javier Perez de Cuellar, for his 100th birthday as he stressed his contribution to promoting sustainable development, human rights, and democracy.

The event —which also saw the participation of Diplomatic Academy of Peru Director Ambassador Allan Wagner— was aimed to honor the Peruvian diplomat.

In a letter, current UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his greetings to Ambassador Perez de Cuellar by mentioning the contributions he had made as UN Secretary-General during his two terms in office, between 1982 and 1991.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry informed that —starting January 22— the exhibition titled "Ambassador Javier Perez de Cuellar: Tribute to the 100 years of an exemplary diplomat" can be visited.

The exhibit will be held at the Ministry's Inca Garcilaso Cultural Center, located in Jr. Ucayali No. 391 - Lima, next to Torre Tagle Palace.
