Peru: FA Ministry to lead multisectoral commission in charge of COVID-19 vaccine

15:39 | Lima, Aug. 12.

Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry will lead the temporary multisectoral commission in charge of carrying out actions for the productive development, acquisition, donation and distribution of the vaccine against COVID-19, President Martin Vizcarra announced on Wednesday.

The Head of State specified that the commission will also be made up of officials from the Ministries of Economy-Finance and Health; the National Health Institute; Concytec; EsSalud; as well as the universities of Cayetano Heredia and San Marcos.

The top official said that the vaccine against COVID-19 will not be available in a short time —although science makes its best effort— since the last phase (validation and verification) is yet to be completed at the world's main laboratories, and this could last until the end of 2020.

The statesman reiterated that the only way to take care of people's health and integrity at this juncture depends on not lowering the guard when it comes to sanitary measures because the virus continues circulating on the streets.

Remarks were made in a televised address to the nation from the Government Palace in Lima. President Vizcarra was joined by State ministers on the occasion.
