The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has inaugurated the "Regional Workshop on Advanced Management of Safety and Chemical Protection for the States Parties to the Latin American and Caribbean Group."

The event was attended by international experts, as well as representatives of public and private sectors of countries in the region, who will address strategies for managing security threats at chemical plants.

Similarly, they will exchange experiences and best practices in the matter, the Foreign Affairs Ministry reported on Twitter.

The workshop was organized by Peru's National Council for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (Conapaq) and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

According to its official website, the OPCW's mission is to implement the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention to achieve its vision of a world free of such weapons and the threat of their use, and in which chemistry is used for peace, progress, and prosperity.

It received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013 for its work in the destruction of such weapons in the Syrian Civil War.
