The
, which began last Thursday with the National Coordinators Meeting and ended Friday with the meeting of the High-Level Group (GAN) made up of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.
The delegations of the four Member States —under the Pro-Tempore Presidency of Mexico— met in Lima to strengthen the integration process with a view to a more citizen-oriented Pacific Alliance.
In particular, they sought to advance the implementation of the mandates emanating from the Declaration of Bahia Malaga adopted last January.
In the economic-commercial sphere, they reflected on the modernization of the Trade Protocol, on the status of trade agreement negotiations with candidates for Associated States (Republic of Korea, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand), as well as on the interest of Ecuador and Costa Rica in becoming full members of this bloc.
Concerning the cooperation pillar, the delegations approved projects for financing by the Pacific Alliance Cooperation Fund (2022 edition) and reviewed the preparations for the IV Cooperation Forum on August 30 —with the presence of the 61 Observer States.
Moreover, the Deputy Ministers held a meeting with the Pacific Alliance Business Council —a strategic partner for public-private articulation, which presented recommendations and made requests to facilitate the integration and economic cooperation of our countries.
The
Pacific Alliance is the eighth-largest world economy and the sixth exporting power worldwide. It also represented 42.9% of GDP of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2021.
