Peru FA Min to attend OECD Ministerial Council Meeting

12:00 | Lima, May. 21.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio will attend the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) set to take place May 22-23 in Paris.

According to a Supreme Resolution —published in El Peruano official gazette— the high-ranking official will also participate in the 8th Meeting of the Steering Group of the OECD LAC Regional Programme in the same city on May 23.

The events are part of the OECD Week 2019 held in the French capital.

The document states the Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) is the OECD's most important event in the political calendar, bringing together ministerial representatives from member and non-member countries.

"Peru's interest in becoming a full member of the OECD was formalized in 2012, and the actions, activities, and initiatives developed within the framework of the linking process were declared of national interest in 2015, through the Supreme Decree N°086-2015-PCM," the Supreme Resolution reads.

Likewise, during the 8th Meeting of the Steering Group of the OECD LAC Regional Programme, Peru and Chile will hand over the co-chairmanship to Brazil and Mexico. Thus, the Inca country's presence at the event is crucial to carry out MCM-related activities.

Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Oliva will take over the Foreign Affairs portfolio during Popolizio's absence.
