Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Gustavo Meza-Cuadra on Wednesday met with Organization of American States Secretary-General Luis Almagro.

At the event, Secretary-General Almagro confirmed the OAS' acceptance of the invitation made by the Peruvian Government to welcome an Electoral Observation Mission for the South American country's parliamentary elections scheduled for January 26, 2020.

Both officials also analyzed the development of the regional political situation.

Within this framework, the Peruvian minister stressed the importance of greater cooperation of the international community with Latin American countries —such as Peru—, which are hosting mass migration from Venezuela.

In this sense, the OAS Secretary-General indicated that he constantly underlines the need for further collaboration with the host nations.

Following the audience, they held a working lunch during which they discussed, in greater detail, the most complex cases in the region.

The meeting was held at the OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C.
