The Government of Peru on Tuesday conveyed its condolences to victims of the heavy monsoon rains that have drenched southwestern India.

The message was contained in a press release issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on behalf of the Vizcarra administration.

"The Government of Peru expresses its deepest condolences to the Government and people of India over the significant loss of human lives," the document reads.

Condolences also extended to "the million people displaced by torrential rains that have ravaged the country's southwest, especially the Indian federal state of Kerala."

In addition, Peru expresses its solidarity with the relatives of the victims and hopes for a prompt return to normality.

Rains have left at least 190 dead and about 1.4 million evacuated so far.
