Upon the arrival of a Government delegation in Cusco region, authorities and organizations signed a letter of agreements, following the announcement of protests by communities in the area.

In a post on Twitter, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) reported that the agreements include the establishment of a work group on April 21. Moreover, a Decentralized Council of Ministers will be held on April 22.

In this regard, "the Government delegation urged social organizations in Cusco to stop their protest actions in order to maintain social peace."

Prime Minister Anibal Torres arrived in Cusco this morning to chair a round-table discussion with representatives of farmers, truckers, and other workers, who had announced a strike in said region due to the high cost of living.

Regional unions had planned to stage a strike on April 18 and 19 to voice different demands, including the implementation of the Second Agrarian Reform and measures against the high price of fuel.

The meeting also included the participation of Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez, Cusco Region Governor Jean Paul Benavente, Peru Libre legislator Katy Ugarte, and representatives of various social organizations in Cusco.
