Peru: Entry of visitors into Machu Picchu at normal rates

14:30 | Cusco (Cusco region), Jan. 5.

The entry of tourists into the Archaeological Park and Peru's tourist icon of Machu Picchu is at normal rates, both through the Hiram Bingham Highway and through the Inca Trail Network, as of 6 a.m. today, the Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC) in Cusco said on Thursday.

In a statement, the entity reported that visitors can enter the area without trouble until 4 p.m., without exceeding the daily visitor capacity of 4,044 people provided for in Ministerial Resolution No. 000452-2022-DM/MC.

Routes 1 and 2 of the Inca Trail Network can be accessed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To that end, both tour guides and group leaders are required to coordinate the allocation of the campsites with the Decentralized Culture Directorate guards and the park rangers of the National Service for Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp).

In the case of Route 5 (km 104-Chachabamba), access is allowed from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. —a schedule that will remain the same for the following days.

Visitors who may be affected by the mobilizations will be able to use the tickets they bought for up to a month, after the regional strike has concluded, or submit a request to refund the ticket (only if booked for the strike days), from January 4 to 11, 2023, by submitting the necessary documents to the virtual front desk or by sending an email to ingresos@culturacusco.gob.pe.

Cash refunds for direct visitors will be made in person at the Oficina de la Coordinacion de Reserva (Reservations Office) located at Casa Garcilaso.

As for payments from Visa or Mastercard (in the case of tour operators and third parties), refunds will be paid directly into the cardholders, according to the deadlines set by them, the statement from the Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC) in Cusco indicated.
