Peru: Eight regions report no COVID-19 deaths over 24 hours

No new deaths caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were recorded in the last 24 hours in eight regions across the country, while one death was reported in other eight regions during the same period.

This information was based on the Health Ministry's COVID-19 situation reports released on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The regions with no deaths reported in one day were Tumbes (93), Cusco (5), Amazonas (27), Ayacucho (8), Huancavelica (5), Tacna (5), Puno (9), and Apurimac (7). The same number of deaths was recorded on the aforementioned days.

Meanwhile, the regions reporting one new death included Huanuco (19), Moquegua (5), Ucayali (119), Loreto (309), Junin (29), San Martin (41), Pasco (13), and Madre de Dios (13).

In total, 16 regions (two-thirds of the regions of Peru) have seen at most one death in one day.

In the case of Loreto, with only one death reported in 24 hours, the number of new COVID-19 cases, as well as hospitalized and ICU patients, decreased too, according to Luis Runciman, Dean of Loreto College of Physicians.

Moreover, on Wednesday, the number of ICU patients receiving mechanical ventilations nationwide fell for the first time since the pandemic began, going from 1,077 to 1,065, a decline of 12 seriously ill patients.
