Development and Social Inclusion Minister Dina Boluarte and
Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Alicia Barcena on Monday met to coordinate actions to reduce poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and anemia.
The meeting also addressed measures to ensure the well-being of those most in need.
"We appreciate the visit of the ECLAC Executive Secretary to the Midis headquarters, from where we assist vulnerable people with the support grant Yanapay (Help) and the delivery of food to community kitchens, we seek to empower women, among other actions to provide access to basic services and expand the coverage of social programs," the minister explained.
ECLAC Executive Secretary Alicia Barcena welcomed the work that Midis has been doing to overcome the impact of COVID-19.
She also announced that
ECLAC will provide technical support to the sector to develop a social observatory —with a multidimensional approach— in order to identify the people who need basic services from the State and, thus, expand the coverage of social programs, as well as achieve financial and productive inclusion.
On the technical side, ECLAC will also contribute to strengthening the assistance provided to community kitchens.
In addition, Barcena congratulated Midis for creating the Single Registration System for Community Kitchens 'Mankachay Peru', since this means the State recognizes women leaders’ efforts to combat hunger.
In addition, she proposed joint action with Midis to create a basic digital basket aimed at households in rural areas, so that they have technological devices with Internet access to reach digital services in areas such as health, education, among others, towards the achievement of their development.
