Pilar Mazzetti —surgeon and neurologist with vast experience in the public sector— on Thursday resumed her duties as Minister of Health —a position to which she was recently sworn in by new President Francisco Sagasti at the Government Palace in Lima.

On this occasion, Dr. Mazzetti is a member of the Ministerial Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez.

Dr. Mazzetti was in charge of the health sector between July 15 and November 10, 2020. Before that, she led the COVID-19 Operations Command, which had been formed in April to face the spread of the new coronavirus nationwide.

Her range of experience in the Executive Branch is wide, since she was also in command of the Ministry of Health between 2004 and 2006, and of the Ministry of Interior between 2006 and 2007.

Dr. Mazzetti has been director of the National Institute of Neurological Sciences; chairwoman of the Peruvian Neurology Society; professor at San Marcos University, (UNMSM), Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), and San Martin de Porres University (USMP).
