The General Directorate for Medicines, Input, and Drugs (Digemid) on Monday authorized the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in teens aged 12 to 15 in Peru.

The information was made public after Digemid updated its website adding the corresponding technical data.

In addition, the National Association of Pharmaceutical Laboratories (ALAFARPE) congratulated —via Twitter— its associate Pfizer for this achievement.

For its part, local TV channel Canal N showed parts of the resolution authorizing the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine in minors between 12 and 15 years of age.

It is worth noting that the Pfizer vaccine is already being administered to minors younger than 15 in other countries. One of the first South American countries to do so is Uruguay.

Accordingly, the Peruvian Government will have to adapt its vaccination program to include people in this age group, which will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the process to speed up the resumption of in-person school classes.
