Peru develops policy to promote efficient energy use and production

10:40 | Lima, Mar. 19.

Deputy Energy Minister Patricia Elliot affirmed Peru is developing an energy policy with a long-term vision that promotes efficient energy use and production within a framework of sustainable development.

During the opening of "Peer Review on Energy Efficiency in Peru," held in Lima on March 18-22, Elliot said "as a country and Ministry of Energy and Mines, our challenges are aimed at implementing the energy efficiency labeling."

"We should also implement energy audits, type-approval formats —mandatory in the public sector— as well as the evaluation of technological alternatives for the use of electric vehicles in our country," she added.

The government official said the energy efficiency policies and programs under development across the country "constitute actions to reduce greenhouse gases as part of Peru's contributions to address the fight against climate change."

She also thanked the visit of Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) experts, and the recommendations they will deliver by the end of the event, which will be implemented to improve energy efficiency across the Andean nation.

According to the deputy minister, Peer Review on Energy Efficiency in Peru gathers the State, academia, civil society and the private sector in the same place in order to promote the progress made and the importance of energy efficiency in our lives and country.
