Deputy ministers at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), Ministry of Economy-Finance (MEF), and Ministry of Transportation-Communications (MTC) on Saturday met with leaders and representatives of heavy load trucker unions to evaluate measures aimed at meeting their demands and establishing consensus.

The meeting took place at the PCM headquarters in Lima.

Last Friday, Transportation-Communications Minister Juan Barranzuela assured that dialogue with heavy load truckers has not broken down, adding that a solution is still being sought to suspend the announced strike scheduled for June 27.

"The negotiation is in its final stage; we still hope to reach an agreement," he pointed out during a press conference organized by the PCM.

The government official argued that regulatory measures have been worked on through multisectoral technical teams. These have been reached by the Council of Ministers, such as, for example, a proposal for a supreme decree which resolves the issue of extension of driving license validity periods.

Joined by Foreign Trade-Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez, Barranzuela led an extensive working meeting with load trucker unions at the Transportation-Communications Ministry headquarters.

At the event, some regulatory proposals were presented, and some of them approved during the extraordinary Council of Ministers session held last evening.
