Peru will be placing greater emphasis on protecting the environment and encouraging responsible industry practices this year after a government decision to declare 2014 the "Year of Promoting Responsible Industry and Climate Commitment."

According to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, this name reflects the government's commitment towards promoting responsible industrial activities and climate change awareness ahead of this year's COP 20 in Lima.

To that end, the Peruvian government plans to put in place a series of "efficient processes that support the industrialization of the country, without forgetting the respect for the population and the environment and with special emphasis on climate change."

The 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place from December 1-12 in Peru.

The declaration was signed by President Ollanta Humala and Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva and appeared in Peru’s state newspaper El Peruano.

The phrase will be present on all official documents throughout 2014
