Culture Minister Alejandro Neyra on Friday morning visited the area affected by the forest fire that occurred last night in Cusco Province.

The government official confirmed that the blaze caused no damage to the archaeological heritage as it was quickly controlled in said sector.

"We have looked around Sacsayhuaman, Tambomachay, and Puka Pukara, and we verified that the archaeological heritage has not been affected," Neyra explained.

"Firefighters and volunteers worked throughout the late evening and early morning hours to control the blaze in this sector. However, they are working to get full control of the fire in another area, although it does not affect the archaeological materials. We feel relieved in that sense," he noted.

The minister affirmed that his sector coordinates with Cusco Region Governor Jean Paul Benavente and Cusco Province Mayor Romi Infantas to avoid this type of situations.

"More than 100 people, including volunteers and firefighters, have worked and keep working to completely control the forest fire," he indicated.
