Peru: Cusco International Airport resumes operations

The Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport in city of Cusco resumed operations on Saturday morning, after two days of suspension due to social protests, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) has reported.

Via its official Twitter account, the MTC announced that it has coordinated with law enforcement to guarantee the integrity of passengers and members of the aviation community, as well as to safeguard airport operations.

The Cusco airport suspended its operations on January 12 as a security measure in the face of protests held in the Southern Andean metropolis.

As is known, on January 11, protests intensified in the city of Cusco. Groups of protesters even attempted to take over the Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport, where a strong presence of the National Police of Peru was registered.

Strong clashes and disorderly behaviors had occurred a day earlier.
