Peru: Current Govt to complete vaccination of elderly by July 28

21:18 | Lima, May. 17.

Health Minister Oscar Ugarte on Monday reaffirmed the current Government's commitment to completing the vaccination of all elderly people in the country by July 28 this year.

According to the minister, this will be possible since this administration has secured the arrival of an additional 10 million COVID-19 vaccines in order to achieve such goal.

In addition, Ugarte emphasized that the Government has secured the arrival of 50 million vaccines —from Sinopharm Laboratory and the COVAX mechanism— by the end of the year.

He went on to say that these vaccines will be left for the next Government to continue immunizing citizens according to the National Vaccination Plan, which is being met in an optimal way.

On the other hand, the government official ruled out any favoritism in the acquisition of Chinese vaccines and reiterated that laboratories abroad only negotiate with governments and not with private parties.

Remarks were made during his presentation before Congress' Foreign Affairs Commission.
