Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries Luis Felipe Villacorta currently supervises discoveries at Huaca Las Abejas of Tucume archeological complex in Peru's northern Lambayeque region.
The findings include more than 20 boot-shaped human tombs and confirm Inca presence in
Tucume —the last great capital of the Lambayeque kingdom.
Last May, Lambayeque's Execution Unit 005 Naylamp embarked on an archaeological research project to recover Los Gavilanes, Las Abejas, and Facho sites. The initiative also involves upgrading Los Gavilanes cemetery.
According to the Execution Unit Director Jaime Valladolid, the resumption of archaeological research in Tucume involves conservation, restoration, dissemination, awareness, and cultural enhancement activities.
The research will be conducted by 81 people and entails an investment of S/1 million (about US$304,000).
Set to be completed in about four months, the activities encompass technical field and office work, conservation and consolidation actions in the intervention area, as well as the strengthening of cultural values and people's affinity with cultural heritage.
