Peru: Credit to individuals up 17.2% in Sep 2022

Credit to individuals grew 17.2% year-on-year last September —an expansion similar to that of the previous month, favored by higher loans in Peruvian Soles that increased by 18.3%, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported on Monday.

In this group, consumer loans expanded 23.6% in September —a behavior favored by the interannual advance of loans in Peruvian Soles (23.8%) and in U.S. dollars (20.8%).

In monthly terms, consumer credit rose by 0.7% last September.

By segments, vehicle loans grew at a rate of 1.6% during the ninth month. Thus, the corresponding year-on-year growth went from 17% in August to 17.9% in September.

Credit card loans decreased by 0.4% per month in September. Nonetheless, in year-on-year terms, they went from 26.9% in August to 29.6% in September.

The rest of consumer loans registered a monthly growth rate of 0.9% in September and 22.6% over the last 12 months.

Moreover, the dollarization coefficient of consumer loans fell to 6% in September —similar to that registered during the previous month and lower by 0.1 percentage points than that registered in 2021 (6.1%).
