Peru: COVID-19 vaccination of 21 and 22-year-olds began today

10:15 | Lima, Sep. 27.

The COVID-19 vaccination of people aged 21 and 22 began on Monday, September 27, in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, according to Health Minister Hernando Cevallos.

The government official underscored that more than 10 million of Peruvians are duly vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.

"We have achieved the goal for this week, which was to make progress toward closing gaps. We are about to reach 40% of the population vaccinated with two doses, and nearly 54% of the population was given the first dose," he said.

The health sector's head noted that thousands of vaccination teams are being deployed across the country, going house-to-house to save people's lives.

People aged 21 or those turning 21 years old this year need to check if an appointment has been scheduled for them and where they should go to get vaccinated, by visiting the government's official "Pongo el Hombro" (I Lend a Shoulder) platform.

The citizens of this age group are encouraged to visit the closest vaccination center with their ID card, wearing two facemasks and a face shield.

Remarks were made after supervising the Spring Vacunafest in the settlement of Caja de Agua, located in Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district.
