Peru: COVID-19 vaccination efforts increased in northern, southern Lima

The Ministry of Health (Minsa), through the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks in Southern Lima (DIRIS Lima Sur), continued the campaign to provide vaccines for COVID-19 and other vaccines that are part of children's routine vaccine schedule.

Deputy Public Health Minister Luis Fuentes urged people to go to vaccination centers to complete their COVID-19 immunization schedule, especially those who have not yet received the third and fourth doses, since this will allow families to be protected during this fifth wave.

Remarks were made during his visit to Jose Galvez Maternal and Child Health Center in Lima’s Villa Maria del Triunfo district.

"All Minsa health centers and vaccination sites are available to the population. So, it is necessary that families go to complete their immunization schedule," he said.

For her part, Immunizations Director at the Health Ministry (Minsa) Maria Martinez remarked that more than 15 brigades will be deployed to this area of Villa Maria del Triunfo, with the aim of visiting more than 1,200 homes.

MartInez explained that this strategy is intended to close vaccination gaps not only in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, but in all regions across the country.

"I would like to remind the population that the fourth vaccination drive will be held from December 15 to 18, therefore the importance of parents bringing their children to complete their schedule of 17 vaccines, which protect them from 27 vaccine-preventable diseases," she said.

In the case of COVID-19, the immunizations director highlighted that the first and second doses protected us against the third and fourth waves; however, in the face of this fifth wave, we all need to get the fourth dose so as to avoid severe illness, hospitalizations, or ICU admissions.

Vaccination in northen Lima 

Likewise, the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks in Northern Lima (DIRIS Lima Norte) held a campaign to provide vaccines for COVID-19 and other vaccines that are part of the routine vaccine schedule at Unicachi Market and Mall Plaza in Lima's Comas district to protect users at said commercial areas.
