Peru: Coronavirus presence ruled out

14:52 | Lima, Feb. 10.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Monday ruled out the presence of 2019 Coronavirus in a Peruvian student who arrived from Hong Kong on Sunday night and was taken to Dos de Mayo Hospital to be evaluated.

General Director at the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC-Minsa) Manuel Loayza informed that —following the test performed on the student— the result was negative for 2019 Coronavirus.

The doctor explained that the isolation measure was taken as soon as the citizen arrived in Peru —
as established by the protocol.

Loayza said that the Foreign Affairs Ministry —which remains in contact with Peruvian scholarship holders overseas— informed Minsa about the return of a student from Hong Kong on a flight to Lima with a stopover in Paris.

Thus, Minsa activated the Inter-health Platform and —as soon as the citizen stepped on Peruvian soil— authorities asked for his consent to isolate and take him to Dos de Mayo Hospital.

Hospital epidemiologist Jose Luis Bolarte explained that the student is currently in the isolation unit and under observation until any respiratory syndrome is ruled out.

The unit is located in an area far from other hospital users and has a special access route. The biosafety and protection measures for the health workers there are constantly updated, he said.

Minsa also located the 41 people —who were around the student— for evaluation and follow-up purposes.
