Congress' recently-elected Chairman Alejandro Soto Reyes on Thursday established the 2023-2024 Annual Session Period at Parliament.

Within this framework, the Parliament head convened a solemn session for July 28 to listen to the Address to the Nation by President Dina Boluarte on the occasion of Peru's Independence Day anniversary.

At the beginning of today's session, the Congress head asked legislators to observe a minute of silence for the passing of former Constitutional Court Chairman Augusto Ferrero Costa, which occurred last Tuesday.

Likewise, Soto summoned lawmakers to a solemn session scheduled for Friday at 09:30 a.m. (local time) to listen to President Boluarte's Address to the Nation.

Today's event was held at the Chamber of Sessions, in compliance with the provisions of articles 48 and 49 of Congress Regulations. Thus, the annual period of sessions runs from July 27, 2023, to July 26, 2024.

This period includes two ordinary legislatures. The initial one begins on July 27 and ends on December 15, 2023; the second legislature starts on March 1 and concludes on June 15, 2024.
