During a plenary session on Thursday, most legislators authorized President Pedro Castillo to travel to the United States, from September 18 to 22, to participate in the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

The authorization was approved with 69 votes in favor, 43 against, and 1 abstention.

The Official letter No. 288-2022PR —submitted by the Executive Branch to Parliament— details that, within the framework of this visit, the Head of State will participate in the Transforming Education Summit on September 19.

He will also take part in the UN High-Level General Debate as a speaker on September 20.

"His presence in New York will allow him to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the region and the (rest of the) world, in addition to a reunion with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to be held between September 19 and 21," the letter read.

In response, Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa said he welcomes the decision made by Congress of the Republic to authorize the presidential trip —a decision that strengthens Peru's image abroad and the continuity of our foreign policy.
