Peru condemns detention of Venezuela Interim President's chief of staff

10:40 | Lima, Mar. 21.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio on Thursday affirmed Peru strongly condemns the illegal detention of Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guaido's Chief of Staff Roberto Marrero and demanded his immediate release.

"The systematic violation of human rights in Venezuela must stop," the official expressed.

On Thursday, agents of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN) raided the houses of Marrero and opposition lawmaker Sergio Vergara —who are neighbors— in Caracas.

Vergara confirmed Marrero had been detained after the predawn raid.

As is known, over 50 nations have recognized Guaido as the Interim President of Venezuela.
