Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio commented on the repressive situation facing Nicaragua and urged an end to violence in the Central American country.

Peru's stance

In statements made to Andina news agency, Popolizio said Peru calls on the Government of Nicaragua to stop acts of violence and intimidation against its citizens

"We request it (the Nicaraguan Government) to conduct the proper investigation so as to punish the perpetrators of such acts and to help the Inter-American system resolve the crisis that the country is going through," the official stated.

The Inca nation is part of the working group created by OAS to contribute to the search for peaceful and viable solutions to the situation in Nicaragua by restoring political dialogue without ruling out early elections as an alternative solution.

OAS Nicaragua Resolution

Presented by Peru and other 11 countries in the region, the resolution was passed by 19 OAS member states.

According to Popolizio, the OAS Permanent Council reiterates its strongest condemnation of human rights violations, repression, and acts of violence committed in Nicaragua.
