A national Armed Forces delegation —led by the Peruvian Air Force— participated in the final planning conference of the "Resolute Sentinel 2024" multinational exercise to be held in Peru from May 27 to June 14.

This exercise —to be led by the Air Force— will see the participation of military personnel from eight countries and take place in the cities of Lima, Iquitos, Pucallpa, and Arequipa, where multi-domain, joint, combined, and interagency training will be carried out.

Thus, the activity organized by the United States 12th Air Force seeks to enhance interoperability with armed institutes and security forces in Latin America and the Caribbean, in response activities to emergencies caused by disasters, combat operations, and others.

Background

As is known, via Legislative Resolution No. 31757, the Peruvian Government authorized the entry of air and nautical means, plus U.S. military personnel, with the purpose of carrying out training cooperation activities with the Armed Forces associated with the "Resolute Sentinel 2023" International Military Exercise.

This international military exercise —which took place on Peruvian soil from June 1 to August 29, 2023— included the participation of 1,100 troops from Peru, the United States, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama, and the United Kingdom.

"Resolute Sentinel 2023" was organized by the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) via the 12th Air Force located at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.

The program's activities were held in Lima, Callao, Pucusana district, Talara, and Piura. They sought to achieve a joint-combined doctrine for interoperability among the Armed Forces of Peru and other countries in the region.

In the case of Peru, "Resolute Sentinel" contributed to the training of the Armed Forces in defense and security roles, control of domestic order, support to the National Disaster Risk Management System (Sinagerd), participation in national development, and support to foreign policy.
