The declaration of intent, signed by both parties, includes various areas of cooperation, such as specialized training in police, prosecutorial, and judicial investigations, as well as the exchange of information and intelligence to improve the traceability of illicit drug trafficking.
Additionally, it provides for the necessary technological equipment, including advanced tools for container inspection and drug trafficking control, as well as specialized furniture to optimize investigative work.
Figueroa highlighted the importance of a joint approach to this fight.
"We need a comprehensive outlook and coordinated work with technical assistance. It is essential to find new ways to combat this dynamic drug trafficking model," he stated.
In turn, the UK diplomat emphasized the British Government's commitment to continuing its collaboration with a strategic ally like Peru.
"This joint effort will focus on reducing illicit exports by strengthening capabilities, leading joint initiatives, and recognizing the vital role of Devida's team. We will ensure these words translate into concrete actions," he added.
The document also includes the implementation of anti-corruption mechanisms, the strengthening of security networks at critical points such as ports and airports, and the enhancement of operational group capacities in their fight against criminal organizations.
Furthermore, Devida commits to coordinating with relevant entities to identify needs in equipment, training, and technical assistance, monitoring the proper use of donated equipment, and reporting progress and results to the British Embassy, thereby ensuring a positive impact.
