Peru and Paraguay tie 2-2 in World Cup qualifying debut

Peru and Paraguay tied 2-2 on Thursday evening in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers.

In the first half, the possession appeared to be split 50-50. However, the Incas reached the goal area more regularly. 

The first goal was scored by Andre Carrillo (Peru), a shot that Roberto Fernandez (Paraguay) failed to save in the 52nd minute of the second half.

The score was tied in the 67th minute by Paraguayan Angel Romero, who also scored the second goal in favor of the home team 14 minutes later.

The red-white squad reacted in the 85th minute, when Andre Carrillo scored on a header assisted by Miguel Trauco to draw the game 2-2.

The match was held at Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asuncion, Paraguay.

With this tie, Peru has gained its first point in the World Cup qualifiers.
