Peru and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will allow the South American country to receive cooperation related to the use of nuclear technologies for food security.
"This program will ensure food security by activating ministries and sectors with effective programs, benefiting Peru through applied nuclear technology, specifically in agricultural work," Gonzalez-Olaechea explained.
As indicated in this MoU, professional and technical capacities will be generated in terms of soil management, water and crop nutrition, and grazing feed for livestock.
A mapping of national food security needs will also be conducted to identify solutions based on nuclear and isotopic technologies.
Added to this are the exchange and dissemination of unclassified information, including the exchange of experiences and best practices in the sphere of food, agriculture, and sustainable livestock farming.
