Peru: Additional tourist attractions reopen in Colca Valley

09:03 | Caylloma (Arequipa region), Nov. 13.

The tourist reactivation in Colca Valley —located in Arequipa's Caylloma Province— is taking place gradually. It started about a month ago when the area reopened to visitors.

This time is the turn of Madrigal district, whose tourist activities will resume after being paused due the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the country since last March.

Madrigal Mayor Juan Tejada noted that several families are engaged in tourism-related business in the area, hence the importance of resuming these activities.

It should be pointed out that health protocols have been implemented to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony marking this reopening is scheduled for November 13 at 7:00 a.m. at Madrigal's Main Square and will feature Autonomous Authority of Colca (Autocolca) officials, tourist agents, as well as locals.

Madrigal is situated on the right bank of Colca Valley. It is a major route for tourists, who will be able to visit places like the Main Square, the Chimpa Fortress, Jarpuña hot springs, among others.

Tourism in Yanque

Yanque district is another jurisdiction whose tourist activities resumed a few days ago and, what a better way to do so than with traditional dances, crafts, horseback riding, adventure tourism, among other activities.

Wititi dancers kick off by capturing the attention of national and international visitors at Yanque's Main Square, where they perform between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. from Monday to Sunday.

The Wititi dance is performed by school students, members of the Farming Association, and local young people, who comply with the corresponding health protocols.
