San Marcos University's Clinical Trials Unit is looking for more volunteers to recruit an additional 1,000 participants for Phase 3 clinical trials of two inactivated vaccines from China's Sinopharm laboratory in Peru.

The registration process for this new group of volunteers —from the general population— will open today, October 19, at 6 p.m. and those wishing to participate can register through the trial website.

The site will contain a link that reads "I want to participate," which will allow access to the registration form, where participants need to click on the "San Marcos" logo. The link will be deactivated after all the necessary volunteers have registered.

According to San Marcos University (UNMSM), the process to recruit volunteers from vulnerable populations at the Center for Clinical Studies of Cayetano Heredia University (UPCH) will be suspended while the registration —aimed at the general population— is running.

The registration for clinical trials at UPCH will resume after the new group 1,000 volunteers have registered at UNMSM.

The researchers from both universities reiterated that the application of these inactivated vaccines does not mean that inoculated volunteers are protected from COVID-19. Therefore, they stressed the need to keep adhering to the corresponding prevention and social distancing measures.
