The Evolution of Guerrero

During the round of questions after the quick list presentation, one of the first inquiries referred to the absence of Paolo Guerrero —historic scorer and former captain of the Peruvian team.

"The Paolo issue is of public knowledge: he is trying to recover and get in the best way," Gareca commented.

"We do not want to alter (or do) anything that could harm him," he added, referring to the injury that kept 'the Predator' away from matches for several months.

Gareca ruled out that the national team might speed up the deadlines for his recovery.

Likewise, he assured that the coaching staff monitors the forward's evolution "so that he can be perfectly fine."

After acknowledging the athlete's willingness and desire to play, the coach commented that Guerrero is currently training at the National Sports Village (Videna) in Lima.

Playoff

Australia and the United Arab Emirates already know the date, time, and place of the match that will determine the Asian Football Confederation representative and team that will face the fifth-place team from CONMEBOL (Peru).

The sides of Australia and UAE will face each other in Doha on June 6 at 9 p.m. (local time).

The winner of this game will face the Peruvian team in a crucial intercontinental playoff, also in Qatar.
