Lake Titicaca - the highest navigable freshwater lake in the world - will attract more than 10,000 tourists during Peru's Independence Day holidays, regional authorities in Puno have predicted Tuesday.
Annually, nearly 300,000 domestic and foreign tourists visit Peru's southern Puno region, said regional president Mauricio Rodriguez.
He noted that tourists are enthralled by Lake Titicaca and it is expected tourist arrivals to increase 5 percent this year.
Rodriquez said that Puno's Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism is launching an ad campaign to promote Lake Titicaca tours during Independence Day holidays on July 27-30.
Lake Titicaca sits 3 810 m above sea level and is situated between Peru to the west and Bolivia to the east.
