The
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday
participated in the 16th Pacific Alliance Summit, at which various issues were discussed, including the
one referring to the ecological disaster caused by the oil spill that occurred in Peru's sea area on January 15.
In turn,
Colombian President Ivan Duque expressed his support for the Peruvian people facing the ecological disaster registered on the coastline and announced that he will deploy logistical support to help with the corresponding cleanup works.
"We will provide all support through the Disaster Risk Management Unit and the hydrocarbons team of our country. These are events that hurt us all, and Peru knows that it is not alone in this disaster," Mr. Duque expressed.
"Besides, we know that President Castillo is truly concerned about the matter," he added.
Moreover, the Peruvian President stated that his participation at the 16th Pacific Alliance Summit serves to reiterate his administration's commitment to boost this regional integration mechanism, so as to bring it into a path of peace and calm.
"The Pacific (Ocean) has no ideologies; the peoples do not feed on speeches. Therefore, there is the need to understand that authorities must stand united to get ahead, within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
While highlighting Singapore's educational model, Mr. Castillo stressed the need to "make it ours" and also underlined the importance of the fight against corruption.

The
Pacific Alliance constitutes a regional integration mechanism made up of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, through which it seeks to progressively advance towards the free circulation of goods, services, capital, and people.
This is part of a strategy to become a platform for projection to the world, with emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region.
On the latest edition, Colombia handed over the Pro Tempore Presidency to Mexico for the 2022 period.
Peru will assume the Pro Tempore Presidency in January 2023.
