The number of vaccines against COVID-19 administered in Peru amounts to 3,115,666 to date. Thus, more than 2,184,000 people received the first dose, whereas 931,400 were inoculated with the second dose.
In addition, the PCM stated that 114,960 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered on May 22 (79,465 of which were meant for use as the first dose and 35,495 for the second dose).
Since Friday, May 21, COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to people aged 65 and above, even on Sunday, at 74 vaccination sites distributed across Metropolitan Lima and Callao, according to the schedule available on the Pongo el Hombro platform.
Vaccines in Lima and Callao
The
Ministry of Health (Minsa) estimated that over 362,000 people aged 65-69 will be vaccinated in Metropolitan Lima and Callao this week to make progress on the vaccination process under a territorial approach, by age groups and comorbidities.
Moreover, it added, the immunization of people aged 60-64 will begin on May 31. This population numbers 442,000 in Lima and Callao.
The Government noted that the vaccination process has sped up thanks to the human resource capacity of health workers and the arrival of new batches of vaccines.
In this regard,
Minsa's Immunization Program Director Gabriela Jimenez reported that more than 90,000 nurses are involved in the immunization process against COVID-19, as well as technicians, statistical personnel, administrative staff, doctors, who work on the front line, eager to protect the population.
For his part,
Health Minister Oscar Ugarte affirmed that the Government has secured 60 million doses to vaccinate all citizens aged 18 and older against COVID-19.
