Over 2 million tourists visited Peru in Jan-Oct 2023, up 26.6%

Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews on Monday announced that, between January and October this year, the number of foreign tourists who visited Peru experienced an increase of 26.6% to 2,028,155.


This increase represents 425,000 additional international tourists compared to the same period in 2022, according to data provided by the National Superintendence of Migrations.

This outstanding result is mainly attributed to the increase in visitor arrivals from various source markets.

Chile led the growth with a significant increase of 73.1%, meaning 207,000 additional tourists.

Other countries that contributed to the increase were: Ecuador, which witnessed a rise of 64.9% (77,000 tourists), Brazil (up 43.3%; 32,000 tourists), Colombia (up 10.4%; 11,000 tourists), and United States (up 2.2%; 8,566 tourists).

These five countries together represent 64% of the total arrivals to the country.

On a regional scale, South America accounted for 54.3% of the total (1.1 million), followed by North America (24%; 487,000 tourists), Europe (14.9%), Asia (3.2%), and Central America (2.7%).

Influx

Regarding data disaggregated by immigration control posts, Jorge Chavez International Airport welcomed more than 1.3 million foreign tourists, which represented 65.3% of the total.

Meanwhile, Santa Rosa Border Control Post in Tacna reported the entry of 369,000 international visitors into the country, accounting for 18.2% of the total.
