Presidential candidate for Peruanos Por el Kambio Pedro Pablo Kuczynski received 50.12% of valid votes versus 49.88% for Fuerza Popular runner Keiko Fujimori, with 100% of ballots processed, Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) Head Mariano Cucho reported on Wednesday.
According to the ONPE, Kuczynski won a 0.24% edge over Fujimori.
This democratic event was formally recognized by the Organization of American States (OAS), European Union (EU) and Union of South American Nations (Unasur) electoral observation missions visiting Peru to monitor the process.
In this sense, the ONPE official indicated the vote counting process was carried out amid absolute neutrality and transparency.
Finally, Cucho expressed his gratitude to 22 million Peruvian citizens -residing in the country and overseas- whose votes contributed to consolidating the fourth consecutive democratic election.
Final results are released four days following the run-off.
